Danforth Art Museum\School presents the Danforth Art Annual: 2016 Juried Exhibition (formerly Off the Wall and Community of Artists), a highly anticipated exhibition featuring some of the top artistic talent in New England. One hundred forty three works by artists at all stages of their careers were selected for the exhibition by Danforth Art Curator and 2016 Juror Jessica Roscio. The exhibition includes both artists who may be familiar to our audiences and those who are new to Danforth Art.
“The range of media and themes represented made the selection process incredibly difficult." says Jessica Roscio. "I was excited to see new takes on traditional media, such as sculpture, painting, and printmaking."
A color reduction silkscreen print was chosen as part of this exhibition. The show runs June 19–August 21, 2016.
Spilt Milk: A Performance Exhibition
'Spilt Milk' is a one night performance exhibition taking place at the Thomas Young Gallery. The event will feature the work of four Petrichor Performance Collective members — Elaine Thap, Helina Metaferia, Kledia Spiro and Nathaniel Wyrick, all recent alumni and friends of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
'Spilt Milk' will include a compilation of diverse performative works that visually articulate themes of ephemerality and time through installation and action. Each of the five solo performances will converse with each other and the common issues of memory, identity and belonging. The event will include three hours of performances (some durational and some short form) and a half hour audience participatory pre-event discussion on the role of performance based practices in the gallery context.
Pre-event discussion will begin at 7:00 pm.
Performances will begin at 8:00 pm and conclude at 11:00 pm. A more detailed schedule will be released closer to the exhibition date
Halfway Through the Dark: New Center NOW & the West End Museum
8 Night, 8 Windows: Halfway Through the Dark
Funded through an Artist grant from the New Center for Arts and Culture and CJP in partnership with the Boston Jewish Music Festival and the Boston Jewish Film Festival.
A sculptural installation, in collaboration with artist Christian Meade, made of found and collected objects, the installation depicts a darkened domestic interior. As the days of Hanukkah progress, the scene will be illuminated by unexpected and miraculous light sources. The work celebrates the light of home and dispels the long dark of winter.

Founded by Marilyn Arsem in 1977, Mobius is known for incorporating a wide range of the visual, performing, and media arts into innovative live performance, video, installation and intermedia works. Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Works created at Mobius have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
I have been invited to perform as part of the Tinderbox series at Mobius. "Searching for the Perfect Gentleman II" is a continuation of a series of performances that focus on the artist’s exploration of masculinity and sexuality through the notion of “the perfect gentleman.” Through the use of biscuits and molasses, the artist will seek to create brief, but intimate, connections with the viewer. The viewer will voluntarily join the artist at a table, offered a biscuit marked with a kiss, and then answer a question posed by the artist. The artist hopes to question the power of love and loss through the recollection of individual memory and the creation of a memorialized image. The biscuit will then be destroyed, signifying both an ending and a beginning.
The curatorial focus of the Tinderbox Series is on presenting a stimulating, creative and diverse series of experimental work including but not limited to performance art, film, video, new music, sound art, movement, collaborative and interdisciplinary work. The series is curated by artists and Mobius members Mari Novotny-Jones and Joanne Rice.

Papaw Passing Time II | Temporary Public Performance Art Project, August - September, 2014
The Mayor’s Office of Arts + Culture and the Boston Art Commission Announce “Pop Up! Dudley Connections” with Eight New Temporary Public Art Projects in Dudley Square
BOSTON - The Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture and the Boston Art Commission are proud to announce “Pop Up! Dudley Connections,” a selection of temporary public and performance art projects in Roxbury’s Dudley Square neighborhood. Images are available upon request.
“The Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, named after Bruce Bolling, the first African-American president of the Boston City Council, will be the next great building in Boston,” says Mayor Martin J. Walsh. “Opening late next year as a 150,000-square-foot municipal center with retail and office space, it is a critical step in the ongoing economic revitalization of Dudley Square, using the neighborhood’s past as a foundation to build its future. These pop-up public art projects from area artists are visual and dynamic ways to signal positive changes in the neighborhood.”
“Boston is one of the oldest U.S. cities, yet is well known for its climate of transformation,” says Karin Goodfellow, Director of the Boston Art Commission. “We are a city that moves between convention and innovation and Dudley Square is currently at the apex of the city’s transformation. We believe that public art is an expression of our passionate ideals, intellectual curiosity, and cultural narrative. Engaging the public in a lively and ongoing discussion on public art as an integral part of city life.”
Partners on “Pop Up! Dudley Connections” include Discover Roxbury, Dudley Square Main Streets, Department of Neighborhood Development, Boston Parks & Recreation Department, The Boston Public Library, Bryana Siobhan, Helina Metaferia, Alejandro Pinto, Artward Bound with Fish McGill and Carolyn Lewenberg of Massachusetts College of Art & Design, Darrell Ann-Gane McCalla, James Ovid Mustin, Ricardo Gomez, and Thomas Burns with Alliger Arts, Irene Smalls, and Nathaniel Wyrick.
